Why Is the Gentse Feesten Held?
The Gentse Feesten started in 1843 as a local folk celebration. It was made by and for the people of Ghent. Over time, it grew into one of the biggest summer festivals in Europe — but the goal stayed the same: free culture, fun, and community in the city streets.
It’s still organised with that spirit. No entry fee. No VIP zones. Just good music, local talent, and a city that opens its heart to everyone.
How to Get To the Gentse Feesten?
Address: City Center of Ghent, Belgium
Car: Avoid driving into the centre. Use park-and-ride options or park in garages outside the city. Some roads are closed for the festival.
By Foot: All events take place in Ghent’s city centre. Once you’re there, everything is walkable.
Bus: De Lijn adds extra night buses and trams during the festival. Check timetables for late connections.
Take the train to Gent-Sint-Pieters station. Then take Tram 1 to the centre — it runs late during the festival.

Looking for a break from the crowds? Visit the Gravensteen, Ghent’s medieval castle, right in the middle of the city centre. It’s one of Ghent’s top attractions and easy to reach during the festival.
